What affects the price

Hours on site. Labour time is the core driver — complex or fiddly work simply takes longer.
Materials. Timber, fixings and hardware are billed on top and vary hugely with the timber grade chosen.
Finish level. Structural framing is faster per metre than finish carpentry like built-ins and trims.
Access & site condition. Working at height, in roof spaces or on old, out-of-square homes slows the job.
Call-out minimums. Most carpenters charge a minimum of 1–2 hours, so batching small jobs together saves money.

Tips before you post

Bundle several small jobs into one visit to get better value from the call-out minimum.
For bigger jobs ask for a fixed quote rather than an hourly rate so the risk of overruns sits with the tradie.
Agree who supplies materials — supplying your own can save mark-up but risks buying the wrong thing.
