Real-world examples

Small sail on existing points$500$1,500
Custom sail with new posts$2,500$5,500
Large or waterproof setup$8,000$16,000

What affects the price

Sail size. Bigger sails need more fabric, heavier edge cables and stronger fixings.
New posts vs existing points. Each new steel post with a concrete footing adds $500–$1,500 to the job.
Fabric type. Standard shade cloth is the baseline; waterproof PVC membrane roughly doubles the sail cost.
Wind exposure & engineering. Exposed sites need heavier posts, deeper footings and sometimes engineering certification.
Ground conditions. Rock, tree roots or services where footings must go add excavation cost.

Tips before you post

Ask for the post size and footing depth in the quote — undersized posts are why cheap sails sag or fail.
Choose a fabric with a UV rating and warranty of ten years or more for Australian sun.
Take sails down in severe storm warnings if your fittings allow it — it dramatically extends their life.
