What affects the price

Scope of integration. Each subsystem added — lighting, blinds, AV, security — multiplies hardware and programming time.
Wired versus wireless. Retrofit wireless gear is cheaper to install; hard-wired systems cost more but perform better.
Home size. More rooms means more devices, switches and cable runs.
Ecosystem & brand. Consumer platforms are budget-friendly; professional systems like KNX or Control4 sit at the premium end.
Programming & setup. Scenes, schedules and integrations take configuration hours beyond the physical install.

Tips before you post

Any hard-wired switches or circuits must be installed by a licenced electrician.
Start with one subsystem (usually lighting) on a platform that can grow, rather than mixing brands.
If you're renovating, rough in extra cabling while walls are open — it's cheap insurance for later upgrades.
