What affects the price

Wall construction. Double-brick and cavity walls use twice the bricks and considerably more labour than single skin.
Brick choice. Commons are cheapest; face bricks, recycled or designer bricks can double material costs.
Footings and engineering. New walls need concrete footings, and retaining walls over about a metre usually need an engineer's design.
Complexity. Curves, piers, arches and matching existing brickwork slow the laying rate right down.
Access. Tight sites where bricks must be barrowed long distances add labour hours.

Tips before you post

Ask whether the quote includes the footing — it's a common gap between quotes.
For repairs on older homes, take a sample brick to a brick matching service before work starts.
Retaining walls above around 1 m generally need engineering and council approval — check before you build.
