Real-world examples

Tubular skylight$600$1,400
Fixed glass skylight$1,500$3,500
Openable skylight with shaft$2,800$6,000

What affects the price

Skylight type. Tubular is cheapest; fixed glass mid-range; openable and motorised units cost the most.
Ceiling type. A flat ceiling needs a built and plastered light shaft, adding $500–$1,500.
Roof material and pitch. Tile, metal and low-pitch roofs need different flashing kits and labour.
Size and glazing. Larger units and double glazing with UV or thermal coatings cost more.
Extras. Blinds, rain sensors and remote operation each add to the unit price.

Tips before you post

Double glazing is worth it — single-glazed skylights leak heat in winter and pour it in over summer.
In bushfire-prone areas, check the skylight meets your BAL rating requirements.
North and south-facing positions give softer, more even light than a hot west-facing skylight.
