What affects the price

Job type. Connecting to an existing point is quick; new pipe runs and conversions take much longer.
Pipe run length & access. Longer runs, trenching, and pipes through walls or under slabs add labour and materials.
Appliance & parts. Regulators, flues, valves and the appliance itself are on top of labour.
LPG vs natural gas. Bottled-gas setups need regulators and sometimes appliance conversion kits.
Emergency call-outs. Suspected leaks outside business hours attract premium after-hours rates.

Tips before you post

Only a licensed gas fitter can legally do gas work in Australia — check the licence and always get the compliance certificate.
If you smell gas, turn off the supply at the meter or bottle and call a gas fitter immediately rather than investigating yourself.
Bundle gas jobs (new cooktop plus a barbecue bayonet, for example) into one visit to save on call-out fees.
